Cosmopolitan Recipe
Ingredients:
2 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Cointreau
1 oz. Cranberry Juice
1 oz. Lime Juice
Orange Peel
Ice
History:
When looking through the lense of “old school” cocktails, the Cosmopolitan doesn’t quite hit the age mark like, say, an Old Fashioned. But it does hit the marks of classic and staple.
The vibrant pink shades in a tall coup make for a refreshing cocktail that can be equally enjoyed at a five star restaurant or sitting on a beach.
It’s believed that the Cosmpolitan came around sometime in the 1970’s in Miami, and then made its ascent to popularity in the 1980’s thanks to a restaurant in Manhattan called Odeon.
Then, you add in the expected growth from making it the drink of choice in a couple of popular TV shows, and a legend becomes solidified. However, ever experimental, bartenders and mixologists continue to innovate, using fresh fruit juices and different types of vodka to give us the 21st century staple.
The Cosmopolitan today, as its name certainly suggests, is a mainstay in the world of fashion runways, the gorgeous evening bars of New York night life, and most good steakhouses, but don’t count out the dive bars either - sometimes the best drinks are found at the simplest of barstools.
